Write with proper grammar on an Apple iPhone or iPad

    Use this page for tips on grammar options available when writing on an Apple iPhone and iPad.

    Intro

    Everyone is familiar with how easy it is to send misspelled texts, use improper grammar on a work email, or even forget to add spaces between words when tweeting or on a Facebook post.

    It’s even easier to make these mistakes if you haven’t optimized the default settings on your phone to your personal preferences.

    By turning off / turning on certain features on your Apple iPhone and through the use of a few third-party apps, you can limit the amount of grammatical errors and save yourself some ‘doh’ moments.

     

    Change grammar settings

    There’s built in grammar settings on the Apple iPhone. Turn on or turn off any of the items below to help improve your writing.

    1. From the main screen or folder, tap Settings.
    2. Tap General, then Keyboard.
    3. Tap the sliders to turn on or turn off the following grammar settings:
      • Auto-Capitalization
      • Auto-Correction
      • Check Spelling
      • Enable Caps Lock
      • Predictive
      • Character Preview
      • “.” Shortcut

     

    Change default keyboard

    Change the default keyboard to one you are more comfortable with. Maybe you haven’t been trained in the standard method or you want to add a new keyboard.

    1. From the main screen or folder, Settings.
    2. Tap General, then Keyboard.
    3. Tap Keyboards, then tap the desired keyboard to change the layouts to something other than the default.

     

    Turn on / off keyboard clicks

    One helpful feature on the iPhone is the Keyboard Click setting. Sometimes the simple audio queue of a key press makes it easier to identify what you are typing.

    1. From the main screen or folder, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Sounds, then tap the slider to turn Keyboard Clicks on or off

     

    Download third-party app

    Some third-party apps provide additional support in addition to the default Apple iPhone functions.

    Third-party apps should be used at your discretion and always check reviews/feedback before downloading. A few that we’ve used successfully include, but are not limited to:
